Effective advertising and marketing materials cost money.

Budget for them or set a limit for a designer to work within. This will help define expectations between yourself and the people producing your product.

If you've surfed around and found a website that you want to model yours after - realize that the production budget on that site may not match yours.

If you do not have photos of your products or service you are going to have to get some...

 

Cost effective does not mean "on a shoestring".

Some of the most expensive communication campaigns we have seen result from companies trying to 'economize' from the beginning... they made the mistake of not really knowing WHY they were doing the project.

Goal identification and planning are what you should be focussed on - this doesn't mean the skies the limit but be realistic ...

A $1200 ad space in a specific magazine may be highly cost effective compared to buying a $300 'banner ad' on hi traffic website.

 

You are not going to get onto the search engines anytime soon.

Yahoo is receiving over 2500 submissions per hour- it currently takes 5 months or more to be effectively registered on a search engine.

So don't rely on just them for your marketing efforts.

 

How are people going to find your site then ...

A lot of people in the web business mistakenly give clients the impression that "If you build it they will come". The simple truth is ... you have to do more than submit the site to the search engines... a lot more.

You're going to have to do a bit of strategic advertising in order to make your website actually benefit your business.

Start by identifying your target customers - where are they, what do they need to know to prompt them to action.
